About me

I’m an associate professor of sociology at and a WAC Coordinator at the Borough of Manhattan Community College and there are way too many things that interest me.  My research interests are in sociology of family, immigration, and South Asian Americans/Asian Americans and related issues of race, class, and gender.  My teaching interests center on Writing Across the Curriculum pedagogy but I am generally interested in creating meaningful learning experiences for students. I am currently learning about contemplative practices in higher education and am deeply interested in how higher education can be more than metrics, where people can reach their whole potential. I’m also a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, colleague and member of my community who is always thinking about ways to make my corner of the world a better place.
